Fire agate, geodes, nodules, psilomelane and other goodies.

This year, we will be meeting at 8am at the entrance to the Coon Hollow Campground on both Friday and Saturday. I will be staying in the Coon Hollow Campground and arriving on Thursday afternoon. The campground is $40, whether you stay one night or two weeks, but they are nice sites and the vault toilets are always clean. You can always just camp out anywhere in the surrounding areas or stay in a hotel in Blythe. Friday, will probably be Fire Agate Chalcedony and Psilomelane. Saturday will be various Geode areas.

Directions: From the 10 Freeway, exit on Wiley Well Road and turn south from the freeway. Around a mile or two down the road, the pavement will turn towards the right and the prison. Don't follow that road! Stay straight onto the dirt road. Stay on this road for about 9 miles to the Coon Hollow Campground (this is past the Wiley's Well Campground, but before the dry camping area we used to use).

4-wheel drive is recommended for these trips but usually just a high clearance vehicle will make it OK. The problem is, many times flash floods can unexpectedly change the road conditions so you just never know how good or bad the roads will be. DEFINITELY NO LOW-CLEARANCE VEHICLES! These sites are remote, so bring food, water and all required supplies. The nearest stores are in Blythe, California.
